Leap Day

We have one extra day of winter this year, darn.

I lost .8 this week. Didn't think I would lose this week because I have been sick all week and couldn't get my usual workouts done. I came down with a cold over the weekend and still have a cough. Even took a sick day on Wednesday and just laid around.

We helped Joe move on Saturday. They had most of the stuff moved. Friday they moved and set up the beds so that was officially their first night in the new house.

Saturday night was the spring dinner and meeting at Fairplay golf club so spring is coming, right?

Stormy Sunday

It started yesterday afternoon; rain and more rain.   There was a high wind warning or watch for this part of California.  I waited all day for the wind to gust to 55 or 60 mph.  The wind started but never gusted to the speed predicted.  This morning the rain is falling and falling.  I have been watching the storm move from San Francisco where they did have some strong wind with their rain.  It looks like we will have a little rain all day but the storm will pass Sacramento by noon today.

Because I stayed home I have almost finished a less-than-two-minute video of Sterling on her first birthday.  I find I can focus on the process of editing as long as I use to work in a darkroom.  (That would be three to four hours.) I've been looking for the best  background music.  Now I'm ready to get back to the longer road trip video.

Time to go out for the Sunday papers.

Friday report

Minus 2 pounds. I'm in shock, because I had the munchies SO bad all day Monday. I resisted until I got to my Bible study that evening and someone made the most beautiful cherry cheescake pie on top of a chocolate cookie crust and smothered in whipped cream - I caved and ate a whole piece. It was GOOD.

Also, I saw Brad G. yesterday. He looks really good. He trucked some boulders for TST. Joe Penny was with him and told us that he is getting ready to donate a kidney to his daughter Jennifer. She has Lupus and has been on dialysis (sp?) for a while. Keep them in your prayers.

Weigh In

Another .6 loss this week. Not much but not a gain. Must be the snow shoveling.

David

Happy Birthday, David. When David was a baby Mom, Shirley, Janell and I took the train out of Omaha to Biloxi for a short visit and to meet David. While Myrna was waiting for the train some kid snatched her purse right out of her lap. She said she had about 5 cents in it, but had to replace a lot of ID cards to get government benefits available through the Air Force.
Some of the things I remember about the trip - It was Hot and humid, much worse than Nebraska. We toured a shrimp factory. It was the first, and probably only time I was exposed to segregation. Most prominent were the separate restrooms in the train depot in Texarkansas. The bar car was closed when we were going through "dry" counties. There seemed to be long long stretches of trees along the railroad line. A friend (maybe she was Myrna's landlady) fixed us a great meal of fresh seafood.
Anyway, have a great day, David.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYBODY

What is your most memorable Valentine's day?

Mine was in 1961, Biloxi, Mississippi. I spent the afternoon at the Mardi Gras parade. The next day my son David was born.

Pet Peeve

One of my pet peeves is people who use handicap only parking spaces when they are obviously not handicapped. This hap pend twice on Sunday. First at Walmart where a lady (and I use the term loosely) and two teenage girls got out of the car a scurried into the store. There was no handicap sign on the plate or hanging from the mirror. The next time was at the Hy Vee store. I didn't see the driver, but again there was no sticker or hanging sign. I debated as to whether to call 911.
This is not an emergency situation just something that really bugs me. Probably should have looked up the non-emergency number and called. Keying the car probably wouldn't be a good idea. (just kidding) With 70% of the population in the US being overweight, a few extra steps into the store would not hurt them. As far as the lady with the teenagers, what kind of message is she giving those girls when she so blatantly disobeyed the law?

Would you have called 911?

Andy

Happy birthday to Andy. He probably doesn't see this, but will send him wishes anyway.

Weigh in

I managed to lose .6 this week. I must really be getting a lot of muscle. Anyone want to arm wrestle?

Randy L

Happy Birthday to Randy, my Son-in-law, a day late as usual. I wouldn't want to get it to him too early, it would be too much of a shock. He is getting old you know. Just kidding.

Randy L

Happy Birthday to Randy, my Son-in-law. His birthday was yesterday, but I would hate to shock him by being on time. He is getting old you know. lol.

Memory

Yesterday  while shopping at Target I saw Jergens lotion with original scent.  I checked the scent and sure enough it was the same or as nearly as I can remember.  I don't remember another lotion in our house while growing up.  Yes, I bought some.

That reminded me of her favorite perfume, Evening in Paris.  One year near Christmas Dad gave me maybe, ten dollars, and told me to buy Mom a gift.  I bought the biggest gift box of Evening in Paris available in Lyons.

Weigh In

Down .8 for the week, that's 3.4 YTD If I would not have to spend Tues and Wed knocking off the pound I am up after my Sun-Mon weekend each week, I could be making some real progress here.

This is SuperBowl weekend and since our Packers aren't playing, it's all about the food and the commercials, I'll have to do it again.

Check This Out

For Sue -- I clipped this from a newsletter months ago. A reminder of what the exercise is doing. So the weight isn't what it's all about.

Progress

Minus 3 pounds.
What is everyone else doing to keep the scale going down? I've been avoiding sugar like it's the plague and I'm trying to go walking for at least 30 minutes 4-5 times a week. I'm snacking on vegetables like celery, instead of potato chips (I really miss potato chips) and have been having a salad for dinner instead of last night's meat & potatoes leftovers. I'm SUCH a Redneck, I wouldn't bother to eat if I couldn't have meat & potatoes daily. Brooke was right about sipping water to stave off the munchies, so I'm doing that, too.

Help me out here, people.

2/1/08

First, Happy Birthday to Abby who turns 15 today. Happy Birthday to Denise who, if my calculations are correct, turns 50.

Weigh in. Not good this week. I gained .8. I am back to where I started the first weigh in of January 08. Really disappointed again, because I have worked out at least 2 hours on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Plus 1 to 1 1/2 miles over my lunch break. When does this extra muscle start burning the extra calories?

Better news weatherwise. No below 0 predicted for the upcoming week. Bad news is more snow and freezing rain for Sunday and Monday. Ground Hog day tomorrow. If he sees his shadow we have 6 more weeks of winter. If he doesn't, spring is just around the corner - maybe a month and 1/2. (Do the math).
